Popular Questions

  • What to wear to a physio?

Quite simply, you can wear what you want. We at Physio Ascot want you to be comfortable and relaxed when attending our clinic.

However, in an ideal world, we would recommend patients wear loose-fitting clothes as it allows us to easily examine the injured area during the assessment.

This might involve massage, stretching, or other hands-on techniques. If you opt for clothes that are easy to take off and put on, like shorts and a loose top, along with comfortable shoes, this will make things a little easier.

  • What are the potential side effects of seeing a physiotherapist?

Here at Physio Ascot, we take immense pride in ensuring everyone of our patients receives the highest possible care.

But there are times when your physiotherapy treatment may cause temporary side effects like soreness, stiffness, bruising, and redness.

These are simply due to the body's healing response, like muscle repair and increased blood flow. They usually subside within a day or two.

On rare occasions, you may experience fatigue or muscle spasms, but they too are temporary and signs of the treatment working.

  • How should I manage any potential side effects?

If on the rare occasion you do experience some side effects from your physiotherapy treatment, such as soreness and swelling, remember these are temporary.

But we would recommend plenty of rest, ideally some ice, compression and elevation.

You need to listen to your body, so avoid any physical activity. Apply ice packs wrapped in a towel for 20 minutes to reduce inflammation.

When it comes to compression, use an elastic bandage to gently squeeze the sore area. And lastly, make sure you elevate the sore area above your heart to reduce swelling.
